Sure there is call up your teammates in the summer and play. There doesnt have to be a ref and a winner and loser to play soccer. Thats the times when you have the most fun practice those free kicks, take people one on one. Thats the only way you can become better coaches can only do so much.
I personally play with college teams from around the area. If you can get in with one player ona college team they usually dont have a problem with letting someone else on the team. That is, if youre good enough. : p
There are multiple mens leagues going during the summer if I recall right. I know they go on into the fall. The games are on Sundays @ Maalwyck park. The level of play ranges from decent to pretty amazing. A lot of foreign skill, some old highschool/college names and overall some really incredible soccer at times.
If you want more info I can give you Mr Quigleys address and you can shoot him an email. Ill dig it up in the meantime.
I have heard rumprs that one of the premiere teams is going to field a u-23 team. Has anybody heard who and if so how to get involved?
EDITORS NOTE: There has been an U23 USASL league for 3 or 4 years now. This league is primarily for college level players, giving them a playing opportunity to prepare for their fall seasons. For more information, their website is www.newyorkpremiersoccerleague.com
Does anyone have any perspective on the Empire State games? Is it worth the trip for the kids?
I have a brother who plays division 1 footy who went to the empire state games. he said it was a good experience. my father says it's a little extra 'something' on a resume as well.
